Sarah H. McCormick entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 3, 2020 in the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. Funeral services for ​Ms. Sarah H. McCormick ​will be conducted on Sunday, January 12, 2020 from St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church in Hamer, South Carolina at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Dr. Orlando McCauley is the pastor and Elder Johnnie O. Coe will be the Eulogist.

Obituary

Sarah Hellen McCormick was the youngest of three children born to William Leroy McCormick and Rose Lee Gordon McCormick on May 19, 1947 in Dillon County South Carolina (Hamer). Upon the death of her biological mother, William later remarried Ludie B. McCollum who helped raise young Sarah and her two older siblings, Lena and Leroy, Jr. The family grew to include siblings: Charlie David (Willie), Tony, Mitchell (James), Teresa, Richard, Lynn, and Edward.

Sarah graduated from Gordon High School in 1965 and later attended Wilfred Academy in Philadelphia where she studied and received her diploma in Cosmetology. Not long after graduating, Sara moved back to Dillon, S.C. and opened her own business-Sarah’s Beauty Salon on Main Street.

Sarah was a caring and loving mother to her three children and always held her family close to her heart. Her children’s fondest memories of her included her animated demeanor, her quickness to laugh, her strong resolve and her love of music.

Sarah was dearly loved and appreciated and will be missed by all who knew her and thought of her fondly.

Sarah is survived by her three children: Michelle D. McCormick, Greg A. Lopes (Angela), and Melissa R. McCormick-Lopes, her grandson Desmond J. Lopes and siblings: Lena Haynesworth, Tony McCormick, Mitchell (James) McCormick, and Lynn McCormick, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
