Herbert L. Bethea, Sr.

July 3, 1943- December 14, 2021

Herbert L. Bethea, Sr. was born in Dillon, South Carolina on July 3,1943. He was called home on December 14, 2021, while living at the Dundee Nursing Home in Bennettsville, South Carolina. During his stay at Dundee, Herbert enjoyed attending church service, mingling with the other residents in the dining hall, playing bingo and weekly FaceTime visits with the family.

Herbert resided most of his life in Dillon, South Carolina with his big brother Clinton Bethea. After graduation, Herbert worked at Firestone and the Dillon School System which allowed him to use his skillset since he was a craftsman by nature. He enjoyed watching baseball and his favorite team is the Atlanta Braves. Herbert enjoyed eating Papa Tom's hamburgers along with a cold Pepsi or Cola. In the past, he would frequent Bethel AME Church in Dillon, South Carolina before going into a nursing home. During his younger years, he would call himself Cool Breeze but once the great grandchild was born, he wanted to be called "Pops."

Herbert is predeceased by his father William Bethea, mother, Marie Bethea, daughter Angela Bethea, brother Clinton Bethea and uncle Albert Bethea.

Herbert is survived by his children, Crystal Rose Dudley Whitfield and her husband James Whitfield, Herbert L. Bethea, Jr., Alvert Bethea, Mary A. Bethea and Kelvin Bethea. His Grandchildren: Anikka Grange, Angela Bethea, Jaden Bethea, Margaret Whitfield, Cathleen Whitfield, and Johnathon Whitfield, great grand Paris Bullock, and many more loving nieces and nephews.
