A memorial services was held on Wednesday, Spetember 14, 2011 at 1 p. m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips, and Holden Funeral Home for Mrs. Mildred Davis, who departed this life on Friday, September 9, 2011 at her home. Mildred Louise Nelson Davis was born in Marion, South Carolina on March 30 1926, to the late Steve and Ophelia Nelson. She attended Marion County Training School and was a graduate of the Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. She later taught in several county school systems throughout the area. On September 20, 1954 in Florence County, South Carolina, Mildred married Cicero Carles Davis, Jr., and to this union three children were born. The Davis family moved to Youngstown, Ohio in August of 1975, where Mrs. Davis continued to teach Special Education in the Youngstown City Schools, retiring in 1984. Mildred Davis was a member of the AKA Sorority and the Eastern Star. She was also a faithful member of the Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church where she served on the Trustee Board and was active with the Mother's Club, United Methodist Women, and the Prayer Line. She attended services faithfully until her recent illness. Mildred enjoyed watching soap opras and spending time with her family. She will be lovingly remembered for her strength, kindness, and warm smile.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her three children, Genevieve Shelton of Youngstown, Angela (Darrell) Smith of Sicklerville, New Jersey, and Cicero C. Davis, III, also of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, William Davis, who resided at her home, Kaneshia McClendon, Mihcaela McClendon, Geronne Wilson, Qwanean Smith, Genneice Robinson, and Marissa Davis; and a special sister-in-law, Dorothy D. Greene of Dillon, South Carolina. Along with her church family, she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings.
