Mr. Calvin Pompey, Sr. passed away on October 10, 2009 at his residence. Memorial services were held in the Preston Greene, Jr. Memorial Chapel, Greene's Funeral Home LLC. Calvin Pompey, Sr. was born in Dillon, SC on April 14, 1943. He was the son of the late Joseph and Lillie Pompey. Calvin departed this life at his home in Latta, SC on Saturday, October 10, 2009 after a long illness. Calvin received his education in the Dillon County Public Schools. He accepted Christ at an early age. He later became an Evangelist at the United Deliverance Church of God in Christ, in Queens NY in 1963, where he served faithfully. Preceding him in death was his daughter Doris Williams, his wife Valerie Pompey, his siblings Shirley Townsend, Gertrude Inman, Eleases Wiggins, Delmo Pompey, Hilbert Pompey, and Izell Pompey. He leaves to cherish his life, his children: Calvin (Shannon) Pompey, Jr., of Florence SC, Jeffrey (Vivian) Pompey of Dillon, SC, Darren Pompey, of Atlanta, GA, Lolita (Rome) Winston, of Atlanta GA, and Frank (Stephanie) Pompey, of Florence,SC. His siblings: Lena Mae (Sam) Evans of Dillon, SC, Mary Joyce Thompson of Dillon, SC, Edella Breeden of Patterson, NJ, Glaydis Brown of Philadelphia, PA, and James (Effie) Pompey of Philadelphia., 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
